Buddhist Practice: Seven-Day Vipassana Course at Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodh Gaya

Aiming to promote mindfulness and self-discovery, Thabarwa Dhamma Gaya Meditation Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Buddhist Studies at the University of Calcutta, the Maha Bodhi Society of India, and the Angarika Dhammapala International Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Sarnath, will host a transformative seven-day Vipassana course at the sacred Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India from 30 June–6 July.

Vipassana, which means insight in Pali, is an ancient meditation technique that aims to cultivate self-awareness and clarity of mind. It is a practice that traces its roots to the teachings of the historical Buddha. This immersive course will provide participants with a unique opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery, guided by the Venerable Dr. Virakari from Thabarwa Dhamma Gaya Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar.

The Mahabodhi Mahavihara , a UNESCO World Heritage site, holds great significance as the place where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment more than 2,500 years ago. Its serene and spiritually charged ambiance makes it an ideal setting for individuals seeking solace and introspection. Participants will be able to meditate in the vicinity of the sacred Bodhi tree, believed to be a direct descendant of the original tree beneath which the Buddha awakened.

The seven-day course will involve intensive meditation sessions, focusing on developing mindfulness, concentration, and deep insight. Participants will be encouraged to observe their thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations, fostering a deep understanding of their own mental and physical processes. The course will be conducted in a supportive and conducive environment, allowing participants to disconnect from the distractions of everyday life and fully immerse themselves in their practice.

The collaboration between Thabarwa Dhamma Gaya Meditation Centre, the Department of Buddhist Studies at the University of Calcutta, the Maha Bodhi Society of India, and the Angarika Dhammapala International Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies demonstrates a shared commitment to preserving and promoting the teachings of the Buddha. By bringing together experts from different fields, this course promises a comprehensive and enriching experience for all participants.
