The revered meditation teacher and Dharma master of the Karma Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will lead a free public webinar on 1 August. Titled “Fearless Wisdom: An Introduction to Dzogchen,” the live-stream will serve as an important prelude to a landmark year-long transmission of Dzogchen instruction via the Tergar Meditation Community founded by Rinpoche.
“This webinar marks a historic milestone for our Tergar global community. For the first time ever, Mingyur Rinpoche is opening his personal, ancestral lineage’s deepest nature-of-mind teachings to be practiced and studied together worldwide over an extensive 11-month period,” Tergar announced.
“Drawn from the Dzogchen text The Heart Essence of the Primordial Secret, this cycle of teachings offers a direct guide to discovering our indestructible nature—a state of fearless, unimpeded presence available in any moment. This free webinar is an introductory overview of this Dzogchen view, and a roadmap for the transformative year of study and practice to come.” (Tergar International)
During the webinar, Mingyur Rinpoche will outline the foundations of the Great Perfection and provide instructions that can be integrated into one’s own lived practice:
An Introduction to Dzogchen: Be introduced to the liberating view of the Great Perfection, shifting away from trying to alter your thoughts, and instead directly recognizing the vast, sky-like space of your own pure awareness.
Ancient Wisdom for Modern Life: Learn to step out of the exhausting cycle of spiritual self-improvement and better navigate the complexities of everyday life.
Your Roadmap for the Year Ahead: Receive a first-look overview of Tergar’s historic 11-month transmission, Dorje Drolö Dzogchen: The Heart Essence of the Primordial Secret.
“Dzogche—the Great Perfection—is a centuries-old tradition that pivots us away from exhaustive effort, showing us how to rest in the natural, spacious wakefulness that is already fully present inside us,” Tergar explained. “Realizing this nature is often said to be so easy we don’t believe it, and so close we don’t recognize it. This is why it is so essential to learn from an authentic and compassionate teacher like Mingyur Rinpoche to guide us directly.”
The webinar is intended to provide an opportunity for practitioners to explore the teachings of the Dorje Drolö lineage teachings and understand their relevance for modern practitioners. It will also explain the structure and significance of the year-long program as a path toward recognizing one’s true nature in the presence of a living lineage master.
“This is my first time actually teaching this to others, this nature of mind teaching,” Mingyur Rinpoche shared. “I am going to teach this elaborately. These teachings, especially Dzogchen teachings, are, in a way, very easy, profound, deep, and relevant right now in modern times.”
“Fearless Wisdom: An Introduction to Dzogchen” is free and open to all. The webinar will be live-streamed at the following times, with live interpretation in Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish:
Auckland: 4am, Sunday, 2 August

“When reflecting on the many beautiful wisdom traditions available today, it can seem that spiritual progress requires a monumental change or tireless effort. But the path of Dzogchen—the Great Perfection—invites us to a different realization: that the wakefulness we seek is already here, hidden only by our subtle oversight in recognizing it.” (Tergar International)

Born in 1975 in the Himalayan border region between Tibet and Nepal, Mingyur Rinpoche received extensive training in Tibetan Buddhist meditative and philosophical traditions from his father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche (1920–96), considered one of the greatest modern Dzogchen masters, and subsequently at Sherab Ling Monastery in northern India. After just two years, at the age of 13, Mingyur Rinpoche entered a three-year meditation retreat and then completed a second immediately afterward, serving as retreat master. At 23, Rinpoche received full monastic ordination.
Mingyur Rinpoche famously undertook a four-year solitary wandering retreat through the Himalaya from 2011–15. In recounting how he came to terms with the realities of his ambition to practice in the manner of a wandering yogi, Rinpoche revealed that he confronted many personal and spiritual challenges—including, at one point, his own mortality. Rinpoche has described the years he spent wandering in the Himalaya as “one of the best periods of my life.”*
