Reflections on the Generous Life: The Legacy of Mr. Robert H. N. Ho
Foreword
Our founder, Mr. Robert H. N. Ho (1932-2025), led a rich life of giving. His generosity was reflected through many different but connected identities: philanthropist, Buddhist patron and benefactor, and journalist and editor. Through these identities, he established a profound and lasting legacy in the form of Tung Lin Kok Yuen, Canada Society, the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation, as well as the Buddhistdoor Global, Buddhistdoor Chinese, and Buddhistdoor en Español sister websites. He further gave enthusiastically to a myriad of causes, from healthcare and hospitals to dentistry and senior care.
This commemorative issue by Buddhistdoor Global seeks to explore and celebrate Mr. Ho’s life of generosity and giving, exploring the facets of his interests and how they influenced his philanthropic approach.
We speak to his friends and associates about his involvement in the media industry and how his love of journalism influenced his idea to fuse the craft of reporting with Dharma propagation through BDG. We look at how his foundation functioned as an educational and cultural bridge between the West and Chinese heritage. And we explore how Mr. Ho, as a patron of Buddhist organizations (including his own TLKYCS and TLKY) and benefactor of Buddhist Studies institutions around the world, embodied Buddhist values and piety.
This special issue is BDG’s tribute to – and commitment to carrying on and furthering – his profound legacy.
