即波羅夷罪。為戒律之根本極惡戒。指犯殺生、偷盜、邪淫、妄語等波羅夷罪之出家人，無分道果，必失其比丘、比丘尼資格，並自教團中被放逐，永棄於佛門之外；以此罪如同斷首之刑，故稱斷頭罪。〔四分律卷一〕（參閱「波羅夷」3442）
