Just as a bird needs two wings to fly, we need the two strong wings of compassion and wisdonm to propel us on the path to enlightenment. But are these ideas that we discuss during Dharma classes, or can they be applied in our everyday lives?

Ven. Thubten Chodron teaches us how to develop these qualities in our daily lives and show how they support our spiritual development.

Thubten Chodron graduated from the University of California LA in 1971. In 1975, she attended a meditation course by Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa, and later continued her study under them. In 1977 she received her novice ordination and in 1986 her bhikshuni (full) ordination in Taiwan. Her teachers include His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tsenzhap Serkong Rinpoche.

She was resident teacher at Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Singapore, and later at the Dharma Friendship Foundation where she is the Spiritual Advisor. She is the founder of Sravasti Abbey as a monastery for Westerners training in the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition.

Venerable Chodron travels worldwide to teach the Dharma, and has written many books, including Open Heart, Clear Mind (1990), Working with Anger (2001), Buddhism for Beginners (2001), Taming the Mind (2004), How to Free Your Mind(2005), and Guided Meditations on the Stages of the Path (2007) with accompanying MP3 and CD.
